RE: Dodge trucks -- 40% OFF??

Buyers Beware
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/090508dnbuspickups.1d6bc0b.html
No kidding. I got rear ended 6 weeks ago and at that time the blue book on my Ram CTD 2500 was around $24,000. I just checked blue book yesterday as I am about to get the truck back next week from the body shop and was thinking of selling it and taking advantage of some of these deals going on new trucks.
The blue book yesterday has finally adjusted to reflect the true market value and its now at $15,800. My insurance company just paid $14,000 to fix a $15k truck....LOL
I feel your pain....we got rear ended two weeks ago....the truck is in the shop righ now.....numbers started at 4K....I think its at least 7K......

RE: New York City???

????
Okay, thats good enough....then it may be worth the expense to take the Ferry. I am not a big Ferry fan, but from that point on the Island, even your GPS if you have one will tell you to take the Ferry. Its wild to see that on the screen. Yes - take the ferry --- if your traveling from CT taking 95/91 North back to MA, VT and ME yes...that would be the best route.
Plus you will not have to worry about taking the Bridge? Not sure why you need the GW, I would take the Throgs to 95...but just as well becuase the area of 95 is just as bad as it gets as far as conjestion.
The only downer really about the ferry is that you need to make a reservation, which should not be a problem...but then you need to arrive on time and early at that.

RE: cheap RV for towing race car

I use to race in SCCA, had a SRX7 with an open trailer. My trailer weight with three sets of tires, tools, etc could not have been more than 5,000lbs. Most of the weight was near the tongue, because of the tires and tools, and oh year the front engine of the car. Its the toughest towing I have ever done for so little weight.
I think your weight is accurate, so if you can find a strong E450 Class C or older Class A in the 30' range you should be able to do it.
It all depends what you really want to spend. $10K may not be enough. May want to consider a strong 1 ton SRW or DRW with an older truck camper. We did it with a Dodge 3500 dually and truck camper. But that combination may well exceed 10k even used.

RE: I should have never bought a Tundra!

Yes a A CVT Tranny would be great......The only thing I can think of re. your speeds were constanct for longer periods then my own. We are heading to VA in a week or two...solo no TT. I want to take the TV because of the comfort factor....I am going to drive it like their was an egg under the gas pedal and report back....I thought I did well at 19.2.....from time to time....

RE: I should have never bought a Tundra!

I just got done with my first "long" trip from the mountains to the beach. The Tundra performed flawlessly with my 9,500lb TT. Once I was on the flats near Charleston, I was able to get 11.0 MPG on cruise at 60 - 65. That is AMAZING!
Here are some fuel stats I did on a LONG trip, unloaded:
Driving 60 MPH: 23.7 MPG
Driving 65 MPH: 22.1 MPG
Driving 75 MPH: 19.8 MPG
Keep in mind this is GAS - which is about a buck cheaper than diesel. I just can't believe how well the 5.7 does on fuel. I wish they'd put this in a MH chassis as it makes more HP and almost as much torque as the Ford V-10.
I am going to try that......the best I have done ( no trip computer..all is done by hand and sometimes if really curious a calculator) is 19.2 and that was at 65mph....
Your right these engines are great...guess its the tranny that is assisting.....just imagine if and when the 7 and 8 speeds hit the market. Everyone who drives our truck...I am always happy to flip the keys to them...come back a believer...Toy should put on their payroll....LOL

RE: I should have never bought a Tundra!

Since taking purchase we have added , Leer 100XQ Cap .Sir Buffalo,
Would you do me a huge favor when you have the time. Could you measure that cap fom the bottom of the bed to the inside top of the cap....and also to the bottom of the door opening?
I'll buy you a beer when I see you!:B
Will do!
When I get home this evening. Expect an email before you have your milk and cookies? Just kidding. Note my measurement will be from the floor of the bed to the actual lip of hatch/ window to give you a true dimension as well as from the ceiling to the bed...I think (from memory their is as much as a 2" difference. ....yes I will do the same for the door....
Your not that far from me...I head your way often, we should stay in touch... I could easily swing buy, etc for you to take a look....

RE: Advice on Tow vehicle choices

Don't skimp on the sway control and you'll be fine. Reese dual cam or equal-i-zer for sure. Between one of these advanced sway control systems, proper setup of said system and vehicles, and proper loading of the trailer, the whole rig will move down the road as a unit regardless of the TV's wheelbase.
The relatively low value of anecdotal evidence aside, a friend of mine towed a 30' travel trailer for years with a 2WD shortbed regular cab Dodge 1500. He was a complainer so if he didn't like the way it handled, you would've heard about it. IMHO, wheelbase has less to do with things than proper equipment and proper setup.
Agreed.
But you have to admit? Just a questions I realize the proper set up with your WDH but a good wheelbase is great.

RE: Purchased F450 today, should I get extended warranty?

When we bought the 07 the Toy only had a t 36 or 48K mile warranty...I forget what it was...but I paid the extra 1K to raise the bar to 100K for seven years. We should be at 100K in 5 if not less. For us its worth it. since it was a new engine out by Toy we thought it was worth it. I looked at it as a 30K truck whats another 1K for security.

RE: On-Star

For the 9.95 / month its worth it for me to use on star as another line to my verizon account. Saves the blue tooth madness and I just look as another safety feature. Jury is up if I will keep my On Star after the year is up.
I wish it was cheaper.......

RE: I should have never bought a Tundra!

You would be surprised what deals are out their for a truck right now. For kicks I looked at an 08 today.....the dealer was willing to make me a great deal on my 07. My 07 is the SR5 DC vs a new 08 Limited DC. Had me thinkings....but the extra $60 / month was not worth it.

RE: I should have never bought a Tundra!

We have the same truck but with the 6 1/2 bed. The no real options. We have a bench seat. We to love the vehicle as an everyday vehicle and as a TV. Since taking purchase we have added the Toyota Side Steps, Line X, Leer 100XQ Cap and a back up camera with a 7" screen. Next will be an upgrade in tires and possible rims....jury out on the rims. Buckstop.biz makes some great bumpers for the Domestics and Nissan. As soon as they make one for the Tundra.....that would be the next puchase.
